Gallifrey RISES!

A much less geeky person would have problems admitting that the first thought I had upon walking this morning was "Gallifrey Falls No More." I, on the other hand, am a big geek and have no problems admitting it.

I am, however the same person, who woke up yesterday and saw the snow outside and imediately thought: "It's not snow. It's only the ashes from an exploded Sycorax spaceship."

Anyway.

Let's talk Day of the Doctor. I am going to have to watch it again in order to critically analyze it. I know there were things that I missed. But, I fully enjoyed it. Or rather, I enjoyed it once I was able to process what I saw. I haven't always liked Moffat's story lines, (though I felt that some of his episodes he wrote in the Russel T. Davis years, were truly phenomenal) but I feel this really worked. I have to go through my headcannon and see how everything fits with the End of Time and such, and if it all comes up roses than all will be fine.

However, plot aside, I never needed a reminder how much I love 10, but really, all that episode did was cement that he's my favourite.

This does not diminish the effect that 11th regeneration will have on me. I will not likely handle it well. Having said that, I have already begun a small attachment to 12, if only for:

Your intense stare is a majestic thing, sir Capaldi.

Anyways. I would also like to rewatch it for... dun dun DA! The costumes! This being a costuming blog, I suppose I should bring it up. But the brief looks of the Time Lords and the Gallifreyan people was very intriguing, and I wish to pick apart their garments. They have a liking for red, and I am fond of the colour myself for haberdashery purposes. Having said that, I might have to wait until the DVD is out so I can pause it and screencape it but, it's not like I don't have a million other projects to work on in the meanwhile.

That accomplished feeling.

Alright! I feel I accomplished stuff this weekend. Random things, but accomplished none the less.

Red's skirt, is basically done. The hemming went pretty okay. It did take a few hours, but things like reality does interupt things. Like brownies. Best kind of reality, really.

I might need to adjust the waist a little, after it all comes together since it might be a little large, but that's really just involves moving a snap or two. I'll be able to tell better once the underskirt and overbodice is all done and I can check the layering. Just need to sew on the tack point, which I'll do tomorrow when daylight has returned to me.

...even though it will be dark when I get home from work.

Whatever.

I rewarded myself with the Game of Thrones S2 preorder. And then rewarded my pricing research prowress with  ordering 10th's sonic screwdriver. ...which I only waited this long, since I needed something else to make it qualify for free shipping.

I also am developing a slight obsession with acquring the perfect plaid shirt. Plaid is a very personal pattern, and frankily all the women's shirts out there, as well as the fabric in the fabric stores is terrible. The plaid should be victorious, not froo froo or ugly. It has to speak to you. The only thing the ones in store are say to me is: "Dust Rag!" Having said that, in wandering around the men's wear section helping (without avail) my mother trackdown a jacket for my father, I discovered the plethora of plaid. Seriously? So unfair. Ergo, if I find my forever plaid, I shall merely acquire it, and introduce it to my dear friends, the stitch ripper and pincushion and taper that badboy. Genius.

Did I figure it out? I dunno. I think I figured it out. I made a few tester pieces (aka, scraps of receipt paper cut to look like the back panel of a coat) and randomly stapled it in places. It looks like it would work. No idea how that would change if the coat was lined, and lining it up with the vent down the back. Huh.  Needs more dakka research.

No luck locating a pashmina scarf for Red. Not that I've been looking exhaustively, but there's nothing in the mall, that I can see. Might just have to be one of those things that is always on the back on the mind.

Test lifted my fabric rubbermaid today. It's very heavy. Yet, I feel like I have no fabric. I horde, apparently. Though I do have a particularly long length of a white.... tablecloth like fabric? Not sure what you would classify it as other than tablecloth on christmas dinner fabric. When I saw it I felt like it should be made into:

Orielle's Cape, from Skyward Sword. I totally have a yellow shirt that would work for that. Totally.
Can't wait for that artbook to come in. Jan 29th is the release date. Hopefully it won't take too long after to arrive. ...Mainly for the manga. <3

Ideas....just ideas.

It's a sign you're getting comfortable with your blog when you start doing multiple random updates in a single day, about everything and nothing in particular and not caring about it. And why not? It's my own, and I can post what I want. :D

I am so reading this in an British accent. A particularily horrid one I'm sure.

I digress.

Around the internet! Some patterns for...things. Or the tenth regeneration, whatever. My interest is caught.
The problem with Tenth is that David Tennant is so.... slight. I think someone affectionally deemed him a beanpole. Slight, I am not. Curvy, would be a better term. So how to handle it? Do you mimic the straightlines of the original suit, or do you make it fit the body type of the wearing, and play up the fact I am clearly not a man. I'd lean towards the latter to flatter.

Some pattern ideas:

V8841 - Long version

That might make a good option. It has the length option, and the back vent. No pleat in the back, but I have to research how on earth you'd make that anyway. No buttons, since it's a tie coat, but easily added since the coat is actually never worn closed (yet, in my viewings). Would be more fitted than using a man's coat style. Original was likely wool (*shudder*) but many copies are microsuede with the blue lining.

As for the undersuit, there is this option for the fabric. While it's not wool, apparently the original wasn't either unlike most suits. (thank goodness)

Brown with Blue Pin Stripe - It can be backed by other material for the proper drape. No idea if you can find a similiar fabric in Fabricland or whatnot, but it looks like there might be choices out there.

Suit style is another question. Jacket, you taper in for a more feminine look, but do you go with pants or a skirt? That really would determine the overlook you'd be going with. But you can't run in a skirt.

At least shirt, tie and shoes are workable. Many not be 100% acurrate, but at least you can style buy Chuck's these days. Have a pair of my own in teal velour with green inside. Festive.

Ah, well. Just ideas on the never ending pile of things.

Tried on a deep red velvet coat at The Bay by Pink Tartan. Only $700, (HA, No.) Couldn't resist. Figures something like that fits like a glove. So, looking around to see if I could make one of me own. Wonder if this would work, or if the sleeves were too puffy. Ah well, research.
